The Uhay Collection is the first collaborative collection between Heyjow and Zarah Juan, two designer-led accessories brands that aim to bring hope through inspired design. This collaboration is part of Heyjow’s 7th Anniversary celebration - and Uhay is an expression of Heyjow’s nature-inspired aesthetic and Zarah’s flair for local design.
The word ‘uhay’ means stem or grain in Filipino and is interpreted in enchanting botanical prints inspired by local grains and plants. Aptly named Sampaguita, Palay and Makahiya, these prints come in two styles: Malaya (a round shape mask inspired by the N-95 mask) and Pag-asa (with ear-to-ear horizontal coverage). Both masks are equipped with filter pocket and pinch-nose wire for a more personal and snug fit.
A product of tradition and technology, the top part of the mask is made of digitally printed patterns on handwoven fabric made by the women weavers of Isabela Province while the second and third layers are made of satin-finished nylon with soft backing. Through the Uhay Collection, we hope to capture the magic of new life – and uplift the spirits of local communities in our little way.
