There is an upside to spending our days at home: we can finally clean, declutter and even redesign our spaces. This new series called #HeyjowQuarantineCorners aims to inspire creativity and joyful living at home despite what's happening in the world right now. Photographer and Heyjow Chief Visual Brand Storyteller Sheila Catilo started a new project while in quarantine – and it has turned her childhood home into the urban jungle of her dreams.

“Since we just moved, it was like a fresh start for us. I was set on bringing new life into my childhood home through color and by adding plants to it, but did not know where to start. The lockdown gave me a chance to sit down and study how I could achieve it, and that is the story of how our indoor jungle came to be.”

“My family has always been a fan of color, and I love how all the pieces in our house, living or nonliving, reflect us as a family.”

“There is definitely a huge change from what it used to look like when the quarantine started. For instance, every corner with access to light like our windows, sliding doors, stairs and common areas have live plants. I’ve finally let go of our lone plastic cactus too and I consider that a huge achievement.”

She and husband Jorem (who is also a photographer) started out with buying plants and tending to their garden – and it quickly became passion projects: Jorem with his concrete planters available on @thisexperiment and Sheila as a #plantita over at @readygetsetgrow.

A variety of plants can now be found in every corner of their home – in between furniture, on top of shelves, and even on the dining table, which is Sheila’s favorite spot in the house because she can see everything from there.

“We don’t have fancy furniture - most have been here since I was a kid, and we got to revive them right before moving in. Our art pieces are by our kids and artist friends, photos taken by my husband and me, little things we’ve collected here and there like that huge metal clock we had to hand-carry on the plane. And while nothing is perfectly in place, what we love about it is it’s our space and its home.”
